Police close resort over death of man

Namutumba. Police in Namutumba District have closed African Resort Beach Hotel on Namutumba-Kaiti Road, following the death of a 23-year-old man on Wednesday morning.
Mr Friday Wangolo, a resident of Kangulomo Village in Namutumba Town Council, was allegedly strangled at the resort during a karaoke show and his body dumped outside the hotel compound.
The Busoga East police spokesman, Mr James Mubi, yesterday said the incident happened at around 1:30am after a fight broke out among youth, purportedly over a prostitute.
Mr Mubi said it remains unclear how the deceased, who was a member of Namutumba Taxi Drivers’ Association, was caught up in the melee.
Investigations, he said, have commenced to ascertain if there is any connection between the deceased and a one Moses who is on the run.
“We are doing our work as police; but the hotel remains closed until further notice. No arrests have been made,” he said.

Preliminary investigations
He added: “I urge locals to work hand-in-hand with us and reveal any credible information concerning his death. Preliminary investigations suggest he fought for a prostitute who works around the hotel.”
By press time, police had taken the body to Nakavule-Iganga for an autopsy.
The Namutumba Town Council LC3 chairperson, Mr Godfrey Mwembe, asked hotel managers to install CCTV cameras in their hotels to help in the identification of wrongdoers when incidents of this nature occur.
“If the hotel had CCTV cameras, police would not be struggling to get the culprits,” he said.
