Police officer dies while serving court summons

KIRYANDONGO: A police officer attached to Masindi Police Station has died in an accident at Kamusu corner along Kiryandongo-Gulu road while delivering summons of a land case at High court in Masindi.

Corporal Robson Obothe,  52 died on Tuesday at Lacor hospital after he was admitted following an accident, which involved a pick up truck that knocked a police motorcycle Reg number UP 3344 that he was riding.

Ms Helen Katusabe, an eye witness said Obothe tried to control the motorcycle but eventually fell down, sustaining head injuries.

“We took him to Lacor hospital but he was over bleeding and unconscious,” Katusabe said.

Mr Julius Hakiza, the police spokesperson for Albertine region confirmed that Obothe was on duty by the time he was involved in the accident.

“We lost one of us through an accident while he was on duty serving court summons in Kiryandongo” Hakiza said.
