A police constable and a businesswoman in Kitgum District have been remanded to prison over the illegal sale and possession of bullets.

SPC Beatrice Akello attached to Kitgum Matidi Police Post and her accomplice Irene Aciro, a resident of Lajang village in Pajimo parish in Labongo Akwang Sub County were arrested two weeks ago and have been in detention at Kitgum Central Police Station.

Another police officer James Canrac attached to Kitgum Bus Park Police Post who had been arrested in connection with the same, was released after he was delinked from the transaction.

The suspects who appeared before Kitgum Grade One Magistrate John Paul Obuya on Monday denied the charges of being in possession and the illegal sale of three Ak47 assault rifle bullets. They were remanded to Kitgum Government Prison until December 18 when they will return for further hearing of their case.

Meanwhile, the same court also remanded to Kitgum Government Prison Mr Samuel Opoka, 30, over the murder of his two-year-old daughter. The suspect was not allowed to enter plea because his case is capital in nature and can only be tried in the High Court.

It’s reported that on November 21, 2019 at Lapana B village in Paibony Parish, Kitgum Matidi Sub County, the suspect slammed her daughter several times on the house-wall until she died.  He is expected to reappear in court on December 18, for further hearing of his case.
