Police probe killing of two people on Entebbe Expressway

Security agencies have embarked on an investigation into the killing of a woman believed to be of Rwandan origin and her driver, who were shot dead on Entebbe Expressway on Thursday night.

The two victims have been identified as Merina Tumukunde and Joshua Ruhegyera Nteyireho.

They were travelling in a Toyota Prado Reg. No. UAW 534B  towards Mpala. They were gunned down at a spot surrounded by an expansive swamp.

Entebbe Division police have opened a general inquiry under file  CRB: 978/2019.

According to police,on Thursday at about 11 pm, Entebbe Police Commander SP Baker Kawonawo received information about the shooting at Nambigirwa Bridge on Entebbe Expressway in Katabi Town Council, Wakiso District.

He led a team of scene of crime officers, a dog handler, police Flying Squad members, among other investigators to the scene.

At the scene, police recovered an AK-47 rifle No.UG POL56-3100699022697 with 27 rounds of live ammunition. Three empty cartridges were also recovered.

In addition, one Counter Terrorism Uganda Police cap and a magazine porch were recovered from the vehicle.

Nteyireho’s national identity card and his driving permit were recovered from his body which was lying in a pool of blood with a bullet wound on the head. Nteyireho’s left hand was holding an AK-47 riffle.

The vehicle in which the victims were travelling was well parked on the roadside at Nambigrwa Bridge facing Mpala. Its engine and lights were not switched off, while the co-driver’s door was open.

Merina Tumukunde’s body which had a bullet wound on the head was in seating position behind the co-driver’s seat.

Inside the car, police recovered a piece of paper bearing particulars of No.32693 D/Sgt Mutesi and two mobile phones.

The bodies were taken to Mulago City Mortuary for a post-mortem.
