Police in Jinja District have recovered a semi-automatic rifle that was stolen from a guard attached to Uganda Securicor Company in October last year.

The gun was recovered near Amanda's Bar in Jinja town.

The rusty gun was found in a bush on Bridge Close, after some motorists saw a suspicious object and reported to police.

Mr Ismael Mutakubwa, a cyclist says he saw street children playing with a small metallic object in the bush and alerted his colleagues.

“I thought it was a water pipe. I realised it was a gun. I called my colleagues who alerted police," he said.

Mr Vincent Irama, the Jinja Central Division Police Commander, says they have been investigating the theft of the gun, adding its recovery would foster investigations.
