Pope Francis appoints new Nuncio to Uganda

Pope Francis has appointed His Excellency Most Rev. Luigi Bianco, the titular Archbishop of Faleron, as the ne Apostolic Nuncio in Uganda.

Until his appointment, His Excellency Most Rev. Bianco has been Apostolic Delegate to Somalia, according to a statement by Fr. Alfred Rayan D’Souza, the Charge d’affaires of the Nunciate in Uganda.

He replaces Archbishop Michael August Blume who has served as Nuncio to Uganda since February 2013.

His Excellency Most Rev. Luigi Bianco was born on 3rd March 1960 in Asti Italy, and was ordained priest for the diocese Casale Monferrato on March 30, 1985.

He has a doctorate in Canon Law. He entered the diplomatic service of the Holy See on July 1, 1989. After serving in different Nunciatures- Italy, Egypt, Argentina, Croatia and Spain, he was appointed Apostolic Nuncio to Honduras on January 12, 2009. On July 14, 2014, he was appointed as Apostolic Nuncio to Ethiopia.

Subsequently, he was also nominated for Apostolic Nuncio to Djibouti and Apostolic Delegate to Somalia on September 10, 2014.

His Excellency Most Rev. Bianco speaks Italian, Spanish, French and English.
