Pope Francis appoints Rev Wanok as new bishop for Lira diocese

Pope Francis has appointed Rt Rev Sanctus Lino Wanok as the new bishop for Lira diocese.
Rt Rev Wanok has been transferred from the diocese of Nebbi by the Pope who also accepted the resignation rendered by Rt. Rev Giuseppe Franzelli, MCCJ, from the pastoral care of the diocese of Lira, according to Rev Fr Alfred Rayan D'Souza, the in charge affairs, Apostolic Church Nunciature in Uganda.

Rev Fr Alfred Rayan D'Souza said in a statement issued on Friday that Rt. Rev Franzelli will remain as the apostolic administrator of the diocese of Lira until the day of the canonical possession by the new bishop.
“We thank the Lord for the dedicated services Bishop Giuseppe has rendered to the Church in Lira and in Uganda and send our prayerful greetings and best wishes to Bishop Sanctus Lino Wanok for his responsibility,” said Rev Fr D'Souza.

The Rt. Rev Wanok was born on April 7, 1957 at Ukuru Pamach village in Zombo District, West Nile region in Warr parish, Nebbi Catholic Diocese.
He was ordained a deacon on August 31, 1986 at Ediofe Parish, and ordained a priest on September 27, 1986 at Warr Parish by Bishop Fred Drandua.

From 2005 to the time of his election as bishop, he was the Vicar General of Nebbi Catholic Diocese.
On August February 8, 2011, His Holiness Pope Benedict XV1 elected him as the third Bishop of Nebbi Catholic Diocese.
