President fulfils pledge to Bududa mudslides victims

President Yoweri Museveni has fulfilled his pledge of availing Shs2 million to each of the survivors and those injured during the tragic Bududa mudslides. He also given Shs5 million to each of the families who lost their loved ones.

The mudslides occurred on October 11, 2018 following a heavy downpour in Bukalasi Sub-County in Bududa District, leaving several people homeless.

President Museveni had made the pledge during his visit on October 14, 2018 to express his sympathy to the affected families in the area.

The State House Comptroller, Ms Lucy Nakyobe, conveyed the President’s pledge to the affected persons on Friday.
According to the statement from state house, Ms Nakyobe directly gave out the money to 60 families that had lost their loved ones and to 60 survivors of the tragedy.

In her remarks, Ms Nakyobe Mbonye conveyed deepest condolences, on behalf of the President, to the victims and the bereaved families.

“The money meant for bereaved families has been given to the closest next of kin while the money for survivors has been given directly to them. I hope no misunderstandings will develop from this,” Ms Nakyobe said.

The Bududa District NRM Chairperson, Mr Stephen Wakyaya, thanked President Museveni for the support to the victims and the families of the deceased.
