Prof Wesana voted first Banyole cultural leader

The clan leaders in Bunyole, Butaleja District in eastern Uganda have elected Prof Elley Wesana Chomi as their first Sehulu (cultural leader).
The 75-year-old director of post graduate studies at Kabale University polled 91 votes defeating his only contender Mr Ben Muyangu, a 65-year-old primary teacher who garnered 45 votes.
The two candidates had been nominated for the post on September 16, 2019 at Butaleja District headquarters.
In his acceptance speech, Prof Wesana called for unity among the Banyole.

He pledged to foster development in education and health sectors.
In his speech Mr Muyangu conceded defeat saying: "I appeal to the winner of today's election to unite people in Bunyole."
The Banyole cultural electoral commission chairperson, Mr John Higenyi while declaring the winner, said the election conducted under tight security was peaceful.
He said 93 percent of voters turned up for today's election.
He said 148 Banyole clan leaders were supposed to vote but only 136 voted while 12 voters didn’t turn up.
