Kagadi businessman gunned down

KAGADI: Residents of Kasojo trading centre in Mpeefu Sub County in Kagadi District have been left in shock after unknown gunman shot dead a renowned businessman.
Mr Abudalla Ntambara, a resident of the same area and chairperson of traditional healers in greater Kibaale was shot dead at his shop Thursday evening by the assailant who was riding on a motorcycle.

The officer in charge crime investigations in Kagadi District, Mr Moses Muramuzi said the incident happened at about at 9:10pm.
“The man was shot at his shop last evening and we are investigating the matter now,” Mr Muramuzi said Friday morning.

Ntambara who unsuccessfully contested in the last area LCI elections, owned two shops, a maize grain milling machine and Kitare nursery and primary school at Kasojo trading Centre.
Mr Bright Mwebeshi, an eye witness said he heard three gunshots at the time of the incident and later got to know that it was one of the area residents who had been attacked.

He added that the suspect was wearing a hood and riding on a Bajaj boxer motorcycle.
He said that Ntambara had no known wrangle with anyone that might have culminated into his brutal killing.
Mr Frank Bigonoka, another resident we found at the crime scene said residents saw the motorcycle but could not identify its registration number because of darkness.

Residents have however, expressed concern over the nature of attack which has reportedly never happened in the area and appealed to security agencies to tighten security.
The Mpeefu Sub County councillor, Mr Andrew Mbuusa asked government to improve on its investigating ability in order to discover the source of the guns that are being used in assassinating innocent Ugandans.
By the time of filing this story, scene of crime officers and forensic experts had visited the scene.

Museveni's assurances

Since 2012, a number of prominent Ugandans like politicians, Muslim clerics, security officers, judicial officers among others have been gunned down by unknown assailants who ride on motorcycles.
The reasons for the killings remain unknown as police are yet to release reports.
However, President Museveni has on several occasions been heard assuring the citizens of peace and security as well as arresting suspects for prosecution whenever such killings happen.

List of some prominent Ugandans killed in similar manner
The shooting comes at a time when police are still investigating the assassination of former Buyende DPC Muhammad Kirumira. Kirumira was shot dead alongside a female friend, Resty Mbabazi on September 8, 2018.
On June 8, 2018, Arua Municipality MP Ibrahim Abiriga, a vocal member of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) was shot dead near his home in Matugga, Wakiso District.

Abiriga’s shooting happened about a year after Police spokesperson Andrew Felix Kaweesi was gunned down in a similar manner on March 21, 2017 near his home in Kulambiro, Kampala. He was traveling with his bodyguard Kenneth Erau and the driver, Geoffrey Wambewo who were also killed in the shooting.

On November 26, 2016 Maj Muhammad Kiggundu was killed alongside his bodyguard, Sgt Steven Mukasa at Masanafu, a Kampala suburb.
It happened as the country was still coming to terms with the assassination of senior Principal State Attorney, Joan Kagezi on March 30, 2015 in Kiwaatule, Kampala. Just like Abiriga, Kagezi was also driving home when she was attacked by assailants who were trailing her on a boda boda motorcycle. At the time of her death, she was the assistant director of public prosecution and head of the International Criminal Division in the Ministry of Justice and Constitutional Affairs.

Sheikh Ibrahim Kirya was gunned down by assailants on Bodaboda in June 2015 in Bweyogerere, Wakiso District. Sheikh Kirya was shot thrice by two assailants on a ‘bodaboda’ as he had stopped to buy groceries, according to eye witnesses.In December 2014, Sheikh Mustafa Bahiga, another Muslim cleric was gunned down by assailants on boda boda at Bwebajja mosque along Entebbe road.

Sheikh Abdul Karim sentamu was killed in April 2012 in Kampala at William Street and Ben Kiwanuka junction as he boarded his car shortly after leading evening prayers.

ADF blamed
Security agencies and investigators have linked most of the assassinations to members of the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) rebel group operating in Eastern DR Congo.
