Andile Ramaphosa, a son to South African President, Cyril Ramaphosa this afternoon landed at Entebbe airport ready with a marriage proposal which will be presented to former Prime Minister Amama Mbabazi tomorrow.
Accompanied by an 11-man delegation, the 36-year-old finance and capital markets professional, currently working as the head of strategy in the Executive team of Macquire Bank South Africa, will be making a formal traditional request to the Mbabazi family to marry off 37-year-old Bridget Birungi Rwakairu whom he has been dating for the last ten years.
Rwakairu was born to the late Shadrack Rwakairu of Kabale and Ms Peace Ruhindi. Mr Mbabazi took over the raising of Rwakairu after her father’s death in 1983.
According to Andile, this is not the first time he is visiting Uganda. The couple already have a two-months-old baby. However, the traditional marriage will only be completed when the Mbabazi family pays a reciprocate visit to the Ramaphosa family in South Africa.
The private traditional ceremony in Kololo an upscale city residential area, which coincides with the Royal Wedding in UK, is making news in Uganda because it involves the son of the South African President and a former Prime Minister and presidential election candidate in Uganda.
Andile yesterday revealed that he met Rwakairu at the Beijing University of Science and Technology where she was pursuing a Masters Degree in Environmental science.
Asked when they will hold the traditional marriage and wedding, he said until the negotiations are complete, they cannot set a date for the ceremony.
