Members of Rotary Club have organised a bike ride competition aimed at raising Shs100m as contribution towards ending polio infections in the country.

The charity race will take place on December 16 at Kololo Grounds where both children and adults are to participate.
The event will bring together Rotarians and the cycling world who will ride to major tourism sites around Kampala’s seven hills.

According to the Ministry of Health, Uganda last registered a polio case in November 2010.

Rotary officials however say that with the increasing numbers of refugees into Uganda, there is need to increase immunisation efforts to ensure total elimination of the remnant cases of polio.

The Rotary district governor Francis Xavier Sentamu said they will continue fighting to endure elimination of polio in the country.
“We have been giving out vaccines for polio in villages, creating awareness, where we tell mothers to go and take their children for immunization. This time round we want to raise money that will help in buying more vaccines so that people don’t have to pay anything,” Ssentamu said.
