Rwandan, Congolese nationals remanded in Uganda prison over attempted murder, robbery

Two foreign nationals accused of attempted murder and aggravated robbery, have appeared before the Kanungu Grade One magistrate in western Uganda.
Daniel Karambe, from the Democratic Republic of Congo and Tafiri Nvaneza from Rwanda are accused of waylaying Swaibu Bahati, a resident of Kashenyi village in Kanungu town council on January 5, 2019.
They reportedly placed him at gunpoint and robbed him of unspecified amount of money and his national identity card.
The Kanungu Grade One magistrate, Andrew Katurubuki didn’t allow the duo to plead to the charges, saying his court lacks jurisdiction to hear capital offences.

He remanded the suspects to Kanungu government prison until August 1, 2019 when they will be returned to court for further mention of their case. The same court also remanded Onesmus Rukundo, a resident of Nyakarambi village in Bwambara Sub County on charges of aggravated robbery, attempted murder and theft.

Rukundo is accused of robbing unspecified amount of money and a mobile phone from Abdul Kabwana Abdul, a resident of Ishasha in Kanungu District on April 09, 2018. He is said to have placed Kabwana at gun point before ordering him to surrender everything he had.
Katurubuki didn’t allow the suspect to plead to the charges and remanded him to prison until August 1, 2019 when his case will return for mention.
