Bundibugyo- President Museveni has condemned the post-election tribal clashes in Rwenzori sub-region and vowed to arrest what he termed as “hooligans” who are carrying out the attacks.

The President made the remarks yesterday while addressing residents of Busengerwa Parish in Ntontoro Sub-county, Bundibugyo District, where the attacks started after the LC5 elections. The attacks have so far claimed 28 people and left several others injured or displaced.

Mr Museveni, who was dressed in military attire, said: “I am going to deploy security in all areas to ensure that peace prevails in the area. Criminals who are hiding in Rwenzori region intending to cause insecurity in the region will be dealt with.”

State minister for Labour and social development and Bwamba County MP Kamanda Bataringaya was booed by the angry residents in front of the President, accusing him of being biased and lazy when it comes to solving Bundibugyo problems.

Mr Bataringaya was in October 2015 defeated in the NRM primaries and never stood in the general election.

The President pledged to give support to the displaced people who now live in camps and those whose houses were set ablaze.
He urged people of Bundibugyo to love peace and live in harmony. He later visited Ngamba and Kirumya where attacks mainly took place.

Last evening, the President was set to address a press conference in Fort Portal Town, Kabarole District.
