King Mumbere and others are still battling several court cases that range from murder to treason among others.
Hundreds of subjects of King Charles Wesley Mumbere (the Rwenzururu King) on Wednesday took to the streets to welcome Queen Nyabaghole Agnes Ithungu, the wife to King Mumbere who returns with a peace message three years since the army attacked the Kingdom palace.
Among the people who welcomed her at Kasese airstrip included Kasese district officials led by the Resident District Commissioner, Lt Joe Walusimbi and kingdom officials.
She is expected to start her week-long-tour in the district on Thursday at Bwesumbu SDA playground. On Friday she will be at Maliba, on Saturday at Better living center in Kasese town for Adventists and on Sunday at St. Paul's cathedral for Anglicans.
According to Mr Walusimbi, the queen's visit has been okayed by government to come and talk peace in a conflict-torn district.
This is the first time the queen is allowed back to the district officially following the November 26, 2016 incident where security forces attacked the Buhikira royal palace after the king allegedly refused to adhere to government orders of setting free over 1000 militia guards he had established to guard his kingdom.
Nyaboghole Ithungu last came to Kasese on August 15, 2018 when she lost her. She also missed the burial of her mother-in-law Nyamukama Christine Biira in June 2019 when court cancelled the travel of her husband King Mumbere citing political interference.
