Shumuk wants witness exhibit in forgery case

Kampala. Buganda Road Chief Magistrate’s Court has ordered the State to furnish the lawyer for city tycoon, Shukla Mukesh, aka Shumuk, with all witness statements and other documents they intend to rely on as exhibits in his fraud trial.
Mr Mukesh, the executive director of Shumuk Alluminum Industries, is charged with13 counts of fraud regarding forged signatures of family members of the deceased consular of Pakistan in Uganda, Boney Katatumba.
The state attorney, Ms Miriam Njuki, informed magistrate Stella Amabilis that investigations had been completed and she had witnesses ready to testify.
The defence lawyer, Mr David Bwambale, sprang up and told court that the prosecution had not disclosed its evidence to them. The magistrate ordered the State to make full disclosure of all documents to the defence by tomorrow. She warned that any document which will be left out will not be allowed during the hearing.
The trial magistrate adjourned the case to March 15 for hearing.
The prosecution contends that Mr Mukesh and others still at large on or about April 17, 2015, in Kampala District, with intent to defraud or deceive, forged a letter for official handover of Hotel Diplomate in Muyenga, Kampala, purporting to have been signed by the deceased.
