Six arrested in city anti-corruption demo granted bail

Prosecution contends that on January 13, 2020 along Kampala and Entebbe Roads , the accused with others on remand acted in contravention of Section 5 and 10 of the Public Management Act by holding meetings in disregard of the laid down procedures of Public Order Management Act (POMA) when they failed to coordinate with Police.
Court has granted bail to six people arrested last week in connection with demonstrations against rampant corruption scandals in the country.
The accused persons who are; Jimmy Gafaayo, Richard Kizito, Shalock Nayesiga, Badru Kaweesa and Ashiraf Lukwago appeared in a session presided over by magistrate Stella Maris Amabilis.
Court granted each accused a cash bail of Shs200, 000 and each of their sureties were bonded at Shs1m not cash.
The suspects were as well ordered avail court with original copies of their national identity cards during the next court sitting.
Last week, Police and other security personnel engaged in running battles with the protesters, who were dressed in black overalls, with placards and ringing bells mobilising the public to rise against corruption.
