Six arrested over Nakasongola murders

The Nakasongola District Police Commander, Ms Patience Namara, at the weekend confirmed that six suspects were under their custody.

Police have arrested six people suspected to have been involved in the brutal murder of four people at Wabigalo Village in Nakasongola District on December 5.

The Nakasongola District Police Commander, Ms Patience Namara, at the weekend confirmed that six suspects were under their custody.

“We are yet to subject the suspects to identification parade. We have not stopped the manhunt for others,” Ms Namara said.

“The security patrols are doing their best and we appeal to residents to cooperate and avail any information that is relevant to the authorities. This is a very sensitive security matter. We appeal to our people to remain calm,” she added.

Meanwhile, the district security team is also investigating an incident where a panga (machete) wielding man at Kyabutaika Village in Kakooge Sub-county attempted to attack a woman identified as Jane Nakalanzi on Saturday.

“We are trying to establish the intention of this man who ran away as residents tried to have him intercepted. He was cited standing at the front door of Ms Nakalanzi, a resident of Kyabutaika Village in Kakooge Town Council. When Ms Nakalanzi made an alarm, the man abandoned a dark coat and the panga as the residents chased after him. We are trying to find out whether the incident is linked to the murder incident,” Lt (Rtd) Sam Kigula, the Nakasongola District chairperson and member of the district security team said.

Nakasongola County MP Noah Mutebi Wanzala said government should take full charge of the investigation process and beef up operations to rule out any sabotage by ill-intentioned groups or individuals.

“The December 5 incident seems to have been properly planned and coordinated even when it is believed that only one individual could have carried out the killings. The timing is very suspicious. You kill four people in broad daylight and walk away? These are people who were from different families. I have also heard information about Ms Nakalanzi. We need to have a serious operation,” Ms Mutebi said.
