Suspected al-Shabab terrorist arrested in Kisoro

Kabale – Police say they have arrested a suspected al-Shabab terrorist as he tried to cross into the Democratic Republic of Congo from Uganda without travel documents.

The suspect was on Tuesday arrested at Bunagana, at the border with Congo.

The police spokesman for Kigezi sub region, Elly Maate, says the suspect was arrested by security operatives who, after searching him, found him with documents concerning the al-Shabab movement.

The suspect told police he is a Congolese national and a resident of Bucuro-Bwita (Congo), and that he was returning from Tanzania, according to Mr Maate.

He also told police he was a student at Imamushafi Islamic school between 2009 and 2012, and travelled to Kenya and Somalia with the intention of joining the Shabab movement.

Police says he suspect lived in Kisoro for almost a month before he was arrested. He is to be transferred to Kampala police headquarters.
