Three dead, five injured in Kyankwanzi accident

Three people have died in an accident that occurred along the Hoima-Kampala highway this morning.

According to eye witnesses, a taxi (registration number UBF 037D), which was moving from Hoima town to Kampala, allegedly knocked a motorcyclist who was crossing the road at Kikonda trading centre in Kyankwanzi District.

Mr Shaban Teeko, the officer in charge of traffic in Kyankwanzi district said three people died on spot.

Eye witnesses told Police that the taxi overturned several times after it knocked the cyclist.

Police have identified the deceased as Godfrey Mutibwa, 30, Paul Alisingura, 34, and Edward Butera, 22. The deceased were residents of Hoima, Kagadi and Kyankwanzi Districts, respectively.

Five passengers in the taxi sustained injuries.

Bodies of the deceased have been taken to Kiboga Hospital Mortuary for postmortem, as police investigate the cause of the accident.
