Shock engulfed residents of Igurika Village, Muhorro Town Council in Kagadi District after a 60-year-old man was discovered killed and his body torched by unknown assailants on Sunday.

According to Mr Manuel Asiimwe, a son to the deceased, he last saw his father Omuhereza Asiimwe on Sunday evening at around 6pm.

Mr Asiimwe explained that there is a place with a sharp corner in Karuswiga Ward, few metres from the deceased’s home where thugs usually waylay people at night, adding that he is suspicious that his father could have fallen victim.
“I was shocked when I was called that he [dad] is dead. I found his body burnt with all clothes,’’ Mr Asiimwe said.
Mr Ariru Basanya, the area chairman, appealed to the general public not to take the law in their hands.
“I got a call from this family about the death of our resident. I don’t know how all this happened but I urge the people to avoid lawlessness,” Mr Basanya said.

Ms Eularia Nyamahunge, the Kariswiga Ward female councillor, condemned the act. She suspected that the deceased was first strangled and later burnt before carrying the remains of the body to the bedroom in the deceased’s house.

Muhorro police detectives combed the crime scene and one person was arrested to assist them in investigations. They said the hunt will continue until all the suspects are arrested.
