Trailer rams into Centenary Bank branch in Bugiri

A trailer has rammed into the Centenary Bank branch in Bugiri, destroying the building and furniture.

The accident occurred at around 4.00am on Monday, when the driver of the trailer registration number UBD 091C/UBD 669H lost control and it rammed into the building located on Grant Street, along the Iganga-Tororo Highway. It destroyed the waiting area, Cash tills, and the manager's office.

A bank employee who spoke on condition of anonymity said that there were no human casualties.

"Although it occurred early when some of the bank staff like cleaners and guards were around, none of them was injured, but we only suffered damage to physical property," he said.

In a press statement sent to this reporter, Ms Beatrice Lugalambi, the bank's general manager corporate communications and marketing said all their personnel are safe and accounted for.

"Police is investigating the circumstances under which the accident occurred. Our Bank is taking all the necessary steps within the constraints of time and safety to ensure Bugiri branch resumes as soon as possible. So far, some of the CenteAgents are already stationed at the branch to offer service. We encourage our customers in Bugiri to access service through our alternative channels including CenteMobile, AgentBanking, CenteVoucher, Online banking and CenteVisa,” she said.

Police have cordoned off the area and restricted entry to only detectives and selected bank staff to carry on with investigations. It is said that the trailer was transporting cement from Tororo District when the accident occurred.
