Tumwesigye wins Sheema municipality MP race

The Electoral Commission has declared the minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Dr Elioda Tumwesigye, NRM as the winner of Sheema Municipality MP race.

Tumwesigye was in the race with six other candidates who included; Ms Virginia Plan Mugyenyi, FDC, Mr Benjamin Ruyombya, Mr Ambrose Mwesigye, Mr Jonas Tumwiine, Mr Meshach Katusiime and Mr Raymond Kamugisha, all on independent ticket.

Dr Tumwesigye won the race with 13, 590 votes, while his close rival Mugyenyi managed to get 11, 489 votes.
Mr Benjamin Ruyombya got 867 votes, Mr Ambrose Mwesigye got 32, Mr Jonas Tumwiine got 185, Mr Meshach Katusiime got 756 and Mr Raymond Kamugisha got 276 votes.

“Accordingly, as the returning officer of Sheema Electoral District, and in accordance with section 58(1) of the parliamentary elections act, I declare Elioda Tumwesigye who has obtained the largest number of votes, to be the elected candidate of Sheema Municipality Constituency,” declared Ms Deborah Asiimwe, the Sheema District Returning Officer.

Dr Tumwesigye's win however indicates that the Electoral Commission will now organise the by-election for the Sheema North MP seat since Tumwesigye will now be representing the Sheema Municipality.
