Two killed in accident along Mbale-Tirinyi Road

Two people have been confirmed dead while scores have sustained injuries following an accident that happened at Kyaluko Village, Muzuba Sub-county in Namutumba District along Mbale-Tirinyi Road.

The Busoga East regional Police Spokesperson, Mr James Mubi, said the accident occurred on Monday at around 6pm when taxi registration number UBA 910E – heading to Kampala from Mbale – overturned.

Mr Mubi attributed the accident to speeding and poor mechanical condition of the taxi.

“One of its rear tyres burst, the driver lost control and the taxi overturned several times leaving two dead and others injured,” he said.

“I know as we approach Christmas season, drivers become drunk and ill-minded with no respect to road signs,” he said.
