Police in Buvuma and Rakai districts are separately holding two women over alleged involvement in their husbands’ murder.
One of the deceased Vincent Were, 30, was a resident of Kibibi landing site Bwema Sub -County Buvuma District while another, John Katunguka, 35, was a resident of Kyakabungo Village in Mutukula Town Council, Kyotera District.
According to Mr Abdul Ssekate, the chairperson beach management unit at Kibibi landing site, Were’s estranged wife stabbed him in the chest following a domestic brawl.

“They developed some misunderstandings on Friday night after the wife accused him of being the one of those who destroyed her fish which is suspected to be immature. When the husband denied the claims, they started fighting each other and in the process, the wife picked a knife and stabbed him to death,” Mr Ssekate said on Saturday.
He said they tried to save Were’s life by rushing him to Senyi Fishing Landing site to board the first boat to Buikwe and receive treatment at Kawolo Hospital but he died on the way.

“We did our best to save his life. We used a boat to rush him to the hospital but he breathed his last on the way,” he said.
After the incident, the suspect attempted to run away but residents arrested and took her to Bwema police post.
Ssezibwa Regional Police spokesperson Helen Butoto confirmed the incident, saying the suspect will face murder charges.

Meanwhile, Mr Grace Mutono, the Kyotera District police commander, said a postmortem report compiled by Dr Herbert Kalema, a medic at Masaka Regional Hospital indicated that Katunguka had blood clots in the throat, an indication that he was killed.
He said the couple had long standing misunderstandings over management of the family estate and at one time, the wife confiscated all the land titles.
“The deceased had been bedridden and it is suspected that the wife strangled him,” he said.
