The Anti Corruption Court has today acquitted and discharged the Chief Executive Officer of Uganda Development Bank Ltd (UDBL) Ms Patricia Ojangole who has been battling charges of conflict of interest for the past five months.
While acquitting Ms Ojangole, the presiding judge, Lawrence Gidudu noted that the prosecution (IGG) failed to prove the charges against her beyond reasonable doubt. Judge Gidudu said that instead, prosecution evidence was in support of Ms Ojangole and therefore had no option but to acquit her of the charges that attract up to 12 years on conviction.
The judge observed that he had never come across such a case where the prosecution evidence adduced supports the accused and he hoped that this was first and last time he comes across such a case.
Prosecution had alleged that Ms Ojangole participated in various processes and proceedings that culminated in her appointment to the position of CEO of the bank on November, 30, 2012, when she signed the employment contract but knowingly failed to disclose the nature of this interest to the board.
