UFA party members plot to throw out minister Kamya

Kampala. The Uganda Federal Alliance (UFA), an Opposition party, plans to kick out its founding head and former presidential candidate, Ms Beti Kamya.
Ms Kamya has been party president despite joining the National Resistance Movement (NRM) government.
“All organs have resolved to impeach Ms Kamya and elect Mr Francis Nsibirwa Matovu as party president,” UFA spokesperson Baker Byayi Senyonga told journalists on Wednesday.
Mr Matovu has been the minister for research in UFA and also chairman of Mpeenja Sub-county in Gomba District.
Mr Byayi said Ms Kamya no longer serves the party interests aimed at getting President Museveni out of power.
“As UFA, we do not have any memorandum of understanding with NRM, but Ms Kamya decided to work with NRM as a minister,” he said.
Three UFA party organs, National Council, National Executive Committee and Central Executive Committee, Mr Byayi said, all agreed to kick out Ms Kamya from office.
Mr Byayi said the party had constituted a committee to resolve the matter of Ms Kamya working with NRM but they failed.
A new party president is expected to be elected as the party prepares for its delegates conference set for July.
In July 2016, President Museveni named Ms Kamya as the Minister in-charge of Kampala.
Mr Matovu said he is no stranger to leadership of the party and promised to keep the party’s ideology.
“We can’t wait more than now, and we have spent two days discussing how we can change and amend the mistakes of our former president Ms Kamya. She still insists to be the President but it’s illegal according to the party constitution,” he said.
Our efforts to talk to the minister were futile as her known personal telephone numbers were off.
However, the minister’s personal assistant, Mr Hassan Kasibante, said the minister is aware of what is happening in the party but she is still engaged with a lot of work.
“Those party members have no right to impeach someone because they are at the level of community leader, It’s only the CEC which has a right to impeach a party leader,” he said.
