UHRC boss Med Kaggwa is dead

The chairperson of the Uganda Human Rights Commission (UHRC), Med Kaggwa has died.
Mr Kaggwa, the former Kawempe South MP was pronounced dead by doctors at Case Hospital where he was rushed on Wednesday morning.

Officials at the UHRC who declined to be named confirmed the development saying that Mr Kaggwa also a lawyer collapsed while driving his official car around Mulago.

The officials said that Kaggwa was driving himself in the UHRC official vehicle on Wednesday morning at about 7.30am.

According to eyewitnesses, Mr Meddie’s vehicle suddenly stopped and knocked the car in front of it. The car remained locked and therefore had to broken into by concerned bystanders who found him convulsing and unresponsive.

Dr Patrick Kaliika, the Medical Director of Case Hospital while addressing the media about the tragedy, said Mr Kaggwa was brought in by a doctor from Mulago Hospital who found him unconscious in his car at the Mulago roundabout.
“The doctor started a one man CPR (resuscitation) with mouth to mouth respiration and cardiac compressions. He was brought in to Case ICU while still unresponsive and on basic life support. No vital signs of life were detected on arrival,” Dr Kaliika said.

Dr Kaliika said it was then that the ICU team took over and immediately started Advanced life support for one hour but with no return vital signs of life. He was declared dead at 9:00 am.
“The family reported that he was a known hypertensive of treatment,” Dr Kaliika said.

Mr Kaggwa was 64-years old at the time of his death.
