Jinja- The Minister of Gender, Labour and Social Development, Ms Janat Mukwaya, has lauded Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) for introducing cultural studies as one of the research subjects for East African army students.
“We are shaped through cultural practices, norms and values and such cultural events give us an opportunity to use culture as one of the major tools to create awareness in our community, especially on the importance of peace and security,” Ms Mukwaya said.
She made the remarks during the cultural gala of the 13th intake course (2017/2018) of students from Uganda, Kenya, Burundi, Tanzania, South Sudan and South Africa at the Senior Command and Staff College in Kimaka, Jinja District at the weekend.
Ms Mukwaya said the event is a manifestation of what was achieved by UPDF during the struggle to liberate the country and bring peace and stability in the region.
The commandant of the college, Lt Gen Andrew Guti, said the gala aimed at creating unity and understanding various students’ cultural values so as to promote peace.
