UPDF recruitment exercise starts

Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) recruitment exercise kicked off Friday (December 27, 2019) countrywide.
The army said today’s recruitment exercise will be conducted in five districts with several zones comprised of other neighbouring districts.

“Tomorrow our recruitment teams will be in Kololo (to recruit candidates from Kampala), Kotido (to recruit those from Kotido, Kaabong, Karenga and Abim), Lyantonde (to recruit those from Lyantonde, Rakai, and Kyotera), Arua to recruit people from (Arua with Madiokollo, Yumbe, Maracha, Adjumani, Moyo, Obongi, and Koboko) and Hoima (to recruit those from Hoima, Kikuube, Kagadi, Kibaale, Kakumiro,” Mr Deo Akiki, deputy military spokesperson said on Thursday.
The Force will recruit 4,000 in an exercise that is slated to run from December 27, 2019 to January 5, 2020.

Army spokesperson, Brig Richard Karemire recently said that recruits should be between 18 and 30 years.
"Regular Recruits must be adult males and females between the age of 18-25 years and professionals between 18 and 30 years," he said.
He said the process is intended to replace thousands of soldiers who have retired.
"Regular recruits must possess a minimum formal education of Senior Four or Senior Six in sciences," he said.

Professionals must possess a degree or diploma in engineering, chemistry and medicine, according to UPDF.
He said teachers and those with vocational training stand a big change to get enrolled.
