Uneb commends UCC over exam malpractice fight

Kampala. The Executive Secretary of the Uganda National Examinations Board (Uneb), Mr Daniel Odongo, yesterday said the board has welcomed the efforts by Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) in the fight against examination malpractice.
“UCC has the mandate over all forms of communication and deciding to issue a statement warning abuse of social media by people spreading fake examination papers is commendable,” he said.
Uneb is currently overseeing the examinations for O-Level candidates and will next month handle High School Certificate and Primary Leaving Examinations. Mr Odongo’s remarks followed a statement by UCC yesterday, saying some unscrupulous people are planning to use social media platforms such as WhatsApp, to perpetrate examination malpractice with intent to fleece students of their money.
“UCC is working closely with Uneb and other security agencies to track the authors of such messages and the general public is advised against participating, aiding and abetting any such illegal practices to avoid a risk of either becoming victims to such frauds or being arrested and prosecuted…,” the UCC statement reads in part.
