The Uganda Christian University (UCU) vice chancellor Dr John Ssenyonyi has appealed to the university community to keep and maintain good hygiene to avoid preventable diseases and infections.

This was revealed at the main campus during the commissioning of UCU's new Ambulance that was imported from Cooper motors at over 77,000dollars.

Mr Ssenyonyi said some diseases such as diarrhoea and other infections can be avoided through regular and proper washing of hands after visiting the toilet and also before serving and eating food.

He however expressed dismay over some people who walk freely after visiting the toilets and they don't wash their hands and cautioned them that they risk their lives.
He said the ambulance that UCU has been using is very old and was not in good mechanical condition as it required maintenance.
"The university council told us to buy a brand new ambulance and here it is,” he said.

Geofrey Mulindwa, the director health services UCU said they have promoted health awareness services and the situation is now good.

"Reporting of health conditions has been in time and the right care given," Mr Mulindwa said.

He said they have received a new ambulance that is not only fast but also has life support in it.

"We have been with sick people and they needed a better ambulance which we have now purchased and it will be beneficial to the whole UCU community," he said.
