Wakiso. Vocal Opposition Members of Parliament in Wakiso District Medard Lubega Sseggona and Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda have been re-elected to Parliament.
Mr Sseggona (DP) is the Busiro East MP while Mr Ssemujju Nganda is the MP-elect for the newly created Kira Municipality. Mr Ssemujju, the FDC spokesperson, previously represented Kyaddondo East.
While declaring the final results, the Wakiso District returning officer Hajjat Sarah Bukirwa also announced that FDC presidential candidate Col Kizza Besigye got more votes in the district, 270,819 votes against eventual winner, President Museveni’s 166,211 votes.
Mr Ssemujju won with 43,422 votes while his opponent, NRM’s Juliet Senkoole Najjuma got 29,587 votes.
Mr Sseggona from Busiro East constituency got 38,473 votes against Mr Emmanuel Magoola Matovu’s 18,773.
Mr Ssemujju said his victory showed that Opposition is still strong in Wakiso District.
Mr Sseggona thanked his supporters for working hard for him to retain Busiro East Constituency. “Busiro East has the cream and these are the people I have been competing with led by Mr Matovu and I ask them to come and develop our own constituency because we belong to the same family” said Mr Sseggona.
Newly-created Nansana Municipality was taken by Mr Wakayima Musoke Nsereko (DP) with 22,992 votes while Mr Robert Ssebunya (NRM) came second with 22,272 votes.
In Busiro South constituency, Mr Peter Ssematimba, the NRM flag bearer bagged 24,153 votes to defeat DP’s Mr Sekigozi Stephen who had 19,055 votes while Independent candidate Simon Kaggwa Njala, a journalist, came third with 15,870 votes. Mr Ssekigozi later said that he didn’t accept the results and was headed to court. Kyaddondo East seat was taken by Mr Katinti Apollo of FDC with 9,005 votes followed by Mr Sitenda Ssebalu of NRM with 8,679 votes. In Entebbe Municipality, Ms Rosemary Tumusiime Bikaako of NRM won with 8,786 votes and Mr Michael Kakembo Michael of DP came second with 8,337 votes.
Makindye-Sabagabo municipality was won by a DP’s Emmanuel Ssempala Kigozi with 21,886 while Frank Kyazze of NRM came second with 15,154 votes. Busiro North was taken by Mr Galabuzi Denis Ssozi of NRM with 11,249 votes.
Mr Daudi Mukiibi Byekwaso came second with 6,685 votes while former vice president Prof Gilbert Bukenya got 5,160 votes in third position.
