Museveni orders probe into defiled girl’s case

President Museveni has sent a team to Mpambire in Mpigi District to investigate an incident in which the director of Wamala Mixed Secondary School allegedly assaulted and defiled a 16-year-old student of the same school.

The State House team first got in touch with the victim’s parents who later led them to the school.
The President Senior Press Secretary, Mr Don Wanyama, yesterday confirmed the investigation.

While closing the police council meeting at police headquarters in Naguru, Kampala on Tuesday, President Museveni vowed to take action on whoever released the suspect, Mr Asaddu Wamala, on bail.

The President reportedly got furious after reading the Daily Monitor story “Guard escapes death for exposing school boss over sexual abuse” on November 19. The story which stated that a guard at Wamala Mixed Secondary School, Mr Vincent Okot, had escaped death after being beaten by a gang for helping the victim call her parents to report the sexual abuse.

Mr Okot was nearly lynched by relatives of Mr Wamala for having given his phone to the victim to call her parents.
Daily Monitor first broke the story of the sexual abuse at the school last week in the story “School head arrested over sexual abuse of student.”

The girl, accompanied by her parents to Directorate of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) headquarters in Kibuli last week, alleged that Mr Wamala sexually abused and defiled her at the school.

Mr Wamala had been arrested and charged with indecent assault but was released on bail by court in Mpigi.
The parents of the girl were furious that he had been charged with a smaller offence instead of defilement. The CID later recalled the file to study it and take further action.
On Wednesday morning, President Museveni tweeted about the defilement incident.
“One girl was courageous enough and reported. The director was held briefly and given bond. I am going to follow this case, who gave him police bond? The watchman who helped to report is also being attacked,” the President tweeted.

He described the circumstances surrounding the release of the director who defiled the girl as ideological disorientation.
The father of the 16-year old girl yesterday confirmed the State House team approached him.

“There is a lady who first recorded statements with the children in the office of Minister Florence Nakiwala Kiyingi. Today, a team from State House came and we went to Mpigi Police Station and the school,” the girl’s father said.
