  • Registration. The EC confirmed the commission is set to gazette the party whose registration has long been expected since Gen Muntu unveiled the New Formation.

Kampala. Promoters of Alliance for National Transformation (ANT), a new political group formed by Maj Gen (Rtd) Mugisha Muntu after walking away from the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), are working on a roadmap to the 2021 general election.
This after the Electoral Commission approved the ANT for registration with the process only awaiting publication of the name, symbols and colours of the party in the national gazette.
Former Serere Woman Member of Parliament, who is the convener of ANT promoters’ meetings, told Daily Monitor yesterday that with the EC set to gazette the party, they are going to work on the election roadmap, which must be ready by the time of the official launch.
She says the official launch date and venue will be announced after receiving the registration certificate.
“We are going to put our heads together to design the roadmap to have our party prepare for the 2021 election. After the gazette, we will have to set the date for the launch,” Ms Alaso said.
The EC spokesperson, Mr Jotham Taremwa, confirmed on Tuesday that the commission is set to gazette the party whose registration has long been expected since Gen Muntu unveiled the New Formation, a transitional platform in September 2018.
“It is true the promoters of ANT have met all the legal requirements to register the party. We are going to gazette and allow 30 days for any individual or group to officially lodge any complaint why the party should not be issued with a certificate of registration,” Mr Taremwa said.
Ms Alaso also said as promoters of ANT, they are happy that all the questions about the status of the party that was initially supposed to be launched before December 25 last year “have been answered now”.
Like other parties, ANT in its roadmap is expected to form grassroot structures which will include village, parish, sub-County, constituency and district conferences.
The party says these structures will form the national delegates conference which has the mandate to elect the party’s presidential candidate.
