Woman arrested while planning her husband’s murder

Police are holding a woman who was allegedly trying to hire assassins to kill her husband.

The woman was arrested on Sunday and is being held at Bulaga Police Post in Wakiso District.

She was arrested by the “assassins” who turned out to be police informers.

Preliminary findings indicate the suspect, a resident of Ssumbwe Village in Wakiso District, had asked her friend to get her someone who could be paid to get rid of her husband, a one Suleiman Nsubuga.

She was advised to contact two men who she met near her home and agreed to pay them Shs200, 000 to break into the family home at night to kill Mr Nsubuga.

But the two men who were not genuine assassins delivered the plot to Bulaga Police Post.

A plan was made by police and the informers to wait until she made a move to arrest her.

On Sunday morning, the suspect again called the two purported assassins and met them near her home to discuss details of the plan; including how the home would be accessed in the wee hours of the night. Unknown to her, the conversation was recorded on video.

In the video, she is seen giving the men a handkerchief which she says contained Chloroform and Shs50,000 for them to buy a machete.

After being recorded, she was rounded up by police officers who were waiting nearby.

The Deputy Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson, Mr Luke Owoyesigyire says that by the time of arrest, police had recorded enough evidence against the suspect.

Upon interrogation, the suspect confessed to having planned to have people break into the house as robbers.

She, however, denied wanting to kill him but rather to injure him which would enable her take control of his business.

"I wanted them to cut his leg off so he could stop working and I take control of the business," the suspect’s statement reads in part.

However, Mr Nsubuga, whom the suspect was planning to kill, was pleading for his wife's release at the police post.
