A driver suspected to have driven Maria Nagirinya and her driver Ronald Kitayimbwa to their death, has been arrested.
The driver and three others in police custody are believed to have participated in the killing of the two victims.
Police spokesperson Fred Enanga said the trio was arrested basing on Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) footage and they are being interrogated by a joint team of police and Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence officers.
“Five other people, who attempted to block police from arresting one of the key suspects, were detained,” Mr Enanga said yesterday.
Nagirinya and Kitayimbwa were kidnapped by men in Lungujja, Rubaga Division in Kampala on the night of August 28. The suspects later abandoned their victim’s car and dumped their bodies in Mukono District.
Police, however, declined to name the suspects.
Mr Enanga said they have lifted fingerprints and DNA of blood they found in the car and analysis is ongoing to establish whether there is a match with samples picked from the suspects in detention.
Relatives of the deceased said their loved ones would not have died if police had acted swiftly.
Chief Political Commissar of Police Asan Kasingye said police officers to whom the relatives of the deceased reported have been arrested over negligence and police is investigating the entire command structure of the affected areas.
Police also recovered the body of a businessman, James Kalumba, who had been missing since August 8, in a water channel in Kajjansi yesterday.

Killings
Nateete. Meanwhile, police have arrested a Uganda People’s Defence Force (UPDF) soldier Peter Okia after he reported the death of his colleague, and another, who is still unidentified, in Nateete, a Kampala suburb.
Kampala Metropolitan police deputy spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire said the two victims were killed by shooting at a structure that was being guarded by UPDF soldiers.
“Pte Okia said one of the deceased attacked his colleague and shot him dead. Okia said he also shot dead the attacker. When our forensic team checked the bodies, they found out that the deaths had occurred longer than the period he claimed the incident happened. He was arrested as we establish the truth,” Mr Owoyesigyire said. The soldiers guarding the building had not informed police of their deployment in the area.
