Drug abuse can destroy your life

The narcotic drugs that were destroyed by police was a huge step forward in the fight against drug abuse. Many people who are victims of drug abuse do not know the consequences of the action.

Worse still, it pains me that most of these people are youth, the generation considered as the future leaders and responsible parents.

Deputy Inspector General of Police Muzeyi Sabiiti said something sensitive and I think we should heed his call because in some way, it can help in reducing the rate at which HIV/Aids is spreading in our country.

While the national HIV prevalence in Uganda is at 6.8 per cent and for people who take illicit drugs is at 17 per cent, then we need to emphasise sensitising our people about the dangers of the scourge.

We need to inform Ugandans that before starting to take illicit drugs and related substances such as alcohol, they should be aware of the harmful effects on them. It should come as no surprise that drugs can impact the lives of the victims - from their health to bank accounts. In short, drug abuse is dangerous.
