Take care, Christmas is fast coming

Some people over stretch celebrating Christmas by involving themselves in financial misconduct, including engaging in excessive borrowing, buying expensive items, etc, in order to show off that they are doing much better than the rest of the people around them.

What you need to know:

  • Telling from media reports after the long awaited festive season, it is so disappointing what most people perceive as Christmas.
  • For instance, we often hear and read about couples that fought over meat, road accidents, gender-based violence and domestic violence, among others. Christ wasn’t born for us to behave and celebrate such ways.

We are just a couple of weeks away to Christmas and we thank God for enabling us to celebrate yet another birth of Christ. The same season my Christian counterparts will be celebrating the birth of the Saviour Jesus Christ, whom we attach and associate with love (God showed us true love through him), patience, peace, kindness, grace, mercy, tolerance and kindness. So in other wards, we ought to enjoy and express the same attributes and values towards one another not only during Christmas, but all the time.

However, telling from media reports after the long awaited festive season, it is so disappointing what most people perceive as Christmas. For instance, we often hear and read about couples that fought over meat, road accidents, gender-based violence and domestic violence, among others. Christ wasn’t born for us to behave and celebrate such ways.

Rather, Christmas is the season we all ought to do what pleases Christ such as charity, visiting the sick, family reunion, merry making in a godly manner, etc. Some people over stretch celebrating Christmas by involving themselves in financial misconduct, including engaging in excessive borrowing, buying expensive items, etc, in order to show off that they are doing much better than the rest of the people around them.

Unfortunately, such thinking and actions usually traps them in heavy debts and poverty. Yes, we need to celebrate the birth of Jesus, but we must do it wisely and spend within our means. Let every institution play their roles lawfully to limit the chances of ‘bad news’ happening. Let police and other security agencies, churches, recreation centres, parents, etc, use this chance to play their role selflessly as its written in the Bible in Colossians 3:23, “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters”.

With this principle, we shall have a better meaningful celebration. So we should all be vigilant and reasonable regarding what we buy, eat, sell, and say, among others, to avoid deviating from the purpose for Christ was born to us.
Merry Christmas and happy 2019.
