Uganda bought two Bombardier jets, which were received with a lot of excitement and pomp. As usual, we want to make events big even when not necessary. The two aeroplanes touched down in April and we were promised that they will take to the skies soonest. They flew to South Africa for a tourism expo.
I am not sure how many tickets the airlines sold while in South Africa to justify their presence in the tourism expo. I have not seen any flier or any communication of the offices of this airline. I do not know where they operate from. I have checked the website and all I find is hotel booking. Can you imagine - no routes, no fares but hotel advertising only on an airline website.
I need to travel in August and I want to fly with our national carrier. However, I do not know the fare yet.
But we are still told that the jets will be in the air by August although I do not know to where? Why should the planes park for four months awaiting certifications? Why didn’t government plan in advance? Why were we in a rush to buy the planes? Is there any untold story? I have not seen any advertising for jobs from the airline. Who will be the hostesses and cargo manager, among others? Who will be supplying local food and local music to the airline?
If it is true that the aeroplanes will fly by end of August, then the marketing should have been done last year. And who is marketing our airlines? We are operating as if it is a mere taxi or boda boda business. I hope someone can clarify on the issues raised because I want to fly in August and with our Airline.
