KAMPALA. Oscar Chelimo will lead team Uganda in the 2018 Youth Olympics Games in Buenos Aires Argentina between October 6-18 this year after being handed the captain’s role during the team flag off. Only five Ugandan athletes managed to qualify for the games in Argentina.
However, the Ssengonzi siblings Jessie and Rebecca who beat the qualifying time at the Africa Youth Games in Algeria 2018, will not participate in the games for reasons yet to be known. “The only thing we can hope for is gold because we are ready for the competition,” said Chelimo after the flag off ceremony held at the National Olympic Committee yesterday.
He added that his aim is to better his record in Algiers where he scooped silver in 3000m which he ran within eight minutes.
The team, led by Sheila Agonzibwa Richardson as the Chief de Mission, will be accompanied by three other officials.
They are team manager Ganzi Mugula, Rodrick Muhumuza as an official and the team doctor Nana Nakiddu. Dr Patrick Ogwel, the acting general secretary of the National Council of Sports (NCS), tipped the team on discipline if they are to be successful.
“Sports requires a lot of discipline and it is the key to success,” he noted.
