Ugandan long-distance runners Joshua Cheptegei and Stella Chesang have each won a gold medal in the FNB Durban 10km City Run.
Cheptegei had promised to finish the race through the Durban Central Business District in 27-minutes and 20-seconds.

He, however, beat his last year’s record in the same race when he, on Sunday, finished within 27 minutes and 16 seconds - the fastest 10km ever run on South African soil.

“I am so happy with my race today, I knew something good was in my legs and today I showed.
Very proud with the national record and course record! Thank you for a great race Durban 10k,” said the Commonwealth Games Champion after winning the Sunday race.

Swiss Julien Wanders finished 16 seconds behind Cheptegei in a time of 27:32 while Moses Koech of Kenya finished third in 27:46.
Mercyline Chelangat also clenched silver in the women’s race.
