Oilers return to normal order to conclude NBL first round

Enabu (R) of Oilers beats challenge from Muramba of JKL.

KAMPALA- City Oilers suffered a mid-first round wobble that included three straight losses to Warriors, UCU and JKL after a 4-0 start.
An easier run of fixtures is perhaps what the reigning champions in the Tusker Lite- sponsored National Basketball League (NBL) needed to put their season back on track.

The Mandy Juruni-coached side suffered an early season injury crisis that has had Stephen Omony, Jonathan Egau Ben Komakech, Tony Drilleba, Daniel Jjuuko all spend considerable time in the treatment room.

They also looked to have their three new recruits Ivan Muhwezi, Francis Azolibe and Abel Omongin fit in as many of the established cast were out of form.

Their previous four games seemed to have provided just what they needed as the Oilers who are chasing an unprecedented seventh straight league crown easily won their final four first round games to conclude with an 8-3 record.

The last of those came on Saturday at the KIU court in Kansanga as the Oilers easily overcame KCCA 78-52 to add to the wins over Our Saviour, Ndejje and Sharing Saints.

Youngster Muhwezi led the Oilers with 16 points as he continues to enhance his reputation after breaking out with the national Under-18 team.

Abel Omongin, another new recruit added 10 points with the old guards Jimmy Enabu and Daniel Jjuuko adding 11 and 12 points respectively against a KCCA side that slumped to a 3-6 record.
The Oilers first round record is however set to be bettered by UCU and Warriors who both improved to 8-1 this season after wins over Sharing and Ndejje.
