No sooner had the kick in the stomach 4-4 draw of the Futsal Super League between Mengo City and Aidenal ended at the MTN Arena in Lugogo on Monday night than exchanges around the refereeing table heated up in discussion over wanting officiating.

It wasn’t so much the game or the performances that had people talking, instead, Aidenal, who were on the verge of earning their first season win were left with a hole for some time to come.

Aidenal took an unprecedented 3-1 halftime lead through Samuel Kabugo and Jordan Kasozi. On resumption, they led 4-1 until when the refereeing pair of Bashir Lukambwe and Hassan Majid made contested calls that accumulated the fouls leading to a penalty and a questionable goal scored at a time Aidenal goalkeeper John Kakande was down injured.

Coach Erick Kisuze, who had to push his irate players to the dressing room said “it was too bad”.
He wasn’t the only one reeling. Fans were crushed too as they jeered at the fulltime whistle. The result left Aidenal moist-eyed and Kisuze remarked it was “tough to swallow”, perhaps because there wasn’t much else to say.

Elsewhere, Park stayed top of the league on 12 points with a 2-1 win over Kabowa while another electric game saw Inter City lose 6-3 against Kisenyi. Intercity goalie Given Mubiru was rushed to hospital following a bad landing during a tackle.

The first round action will conclude next week at Lugogo.a new meet record attracts an additional Shs25m purse.
