With the year coming to an end and the possibility of having a fight in the rear-view mirror (still unsure who his next opponent is), it’s time for Sharif “The Lion” Bogere to take another break.
“He (Bogere) has returned home to see his mother and other family members. I am working on his next fight but it’s obviously not going be in the next two months,” Bogere’s manager Jimmy Alex disclosed.
Bogere who left USA last Wednesday, is expected to have a long stay home before returning to his Las Vegas, Nevada base late January next year.
The 31 -year -old Mayweather Promotions boxer (32-2) has had a slow season with just only one fight in February, a controversial defeat to Dominican Republic’s Javier Fortuna.
It’s now 10 months since his last fight, a rather rare sabbatical for a boxer of Bogere’s calibre who averages about three to two fights each season, except when he is injured.
Alex who has managed Bogere since he turned professional in 2008, has no doubt his boxer will return to the ring not later than April next year.
“We have had several fight opportunities since his last fight, but Bogere still wants to take his time. I am looking for a fight in March or April and after that, we shall aim for a title challenge,” said Alex.
Alex also revealed that during Bogere’s long stay in Uganda, he does expect the former World Boxing Association World lightweight title challenger to stay in shape by working out.
“He needs to stay training because when he gets back in the US, he will have a short period before he gets ready for his next fight,” he said.
