Farouk Daku seeks home comfort in WBU title fight

KAMPALA. Farouk Daku’s record as professional boxer reads 21-15-1 in a career spanning 13 years.
The majority of those victories have however been attained domestically with 18 of 21 wins recorded.

Those statistics were not lost on Daku as he launched his highly anticipated action-packed super middleweight World Boxing Union (WBU) title fight against rising German star Leon Bauer at HBT Hotel on Tuesday.
“I have launched the fight early to create more awareness and a big crowd on fight night. I admire the crowds Moses Golola manages to pull for his events. But it is because he prepares early. We are doing the same and hope for support,” Daku stated.

“He is a good prospect but I have more experience,” stated Daku who was flanked by Uganda Professional Boxing Commission president Salim Uhuru.
“Let’s support him because this is big milestone for Ugandan boxing. He had an option to take the fight elsewhere but he chose here,” Uhuru added.

Daku, who is based in the Netherlands will tune up for the bout against Bauer with another eight-round fight against Ukrainian Igor Kudrytskiy at the Parkovy Convention Centre, Kiev on December 15.

He also used Tuesday’s function to give back boxing equipment to various clubs including Rubaga Hommies, Kampala Boxing Club, Zebra and Golola Academy among others.
