Renowned kickboxer Patricia Apolot returns to the ring to defend her African belt against Kenyan Joyce Awino in a match dubbed “The Revelation Night of 1000 Punches” at Smiles Corner Hotel in Kireka tomorrow.
Popular by her “Black Pearl” moniker, Apolot is arguably Africa’s most decorated female kickboxer, boasting tittles from home, continental, and intercontinental engagements. She was first a boxer, one among the many from the Naguru factory of East Coast Boxing Club.
She joined kickboxing in 2013. She lost her first bout to Brenda Masendi. She has since celebrated 20 straight professional victories, 12 by knockout. “I wish to thank my sponsors, Hima Cement, for their consistent financial and moral support towards my kickboxing career,” Apolot said. “I have trained and I’m well and ready, so my fans should expect the best from the Revelation match.”

She is training other girls, especially from Kumi, her home district, to kick and box out their misery of lack of education, abuse, and poverty.
“It’s the only way I can help them,” she said in a previous interview. She, sometimes single-handedly, organises upcountry events to interest rising stars. And proceeds from her fights foster such efforts.
