Golola - Kasumaali fight cancelled due to People Power politics

Kampala. Promoter Eddie Gombya cancelled Moses Golola’s boxing duel with Ongom Kizito, aka Kasumaali which was slated for Heroes Day in the middle of Wilson Road.
The Step By Step promoter accused Golola of behaving “immature and unprofessional” by appearing in a launch of his kickboxing rematch with Umar Semata at Sheraton Hotel Tuesday. More so, Gombya said, during the launch Golola chanted People Power slogans, and agreed to represent the political pressure group, don its red colours during the build up and fight night August 3. Semata, on the other hand, will don yellow which is synonymous with the ruling NRM.
“I can’t tolerate such recklessness and immaturity. When I was pursuing the permit for this fight in the middle of the road, the authorities warned me clearly to never entertain any politics in the fight,” Gombya told us furiously. “Then how can Golola, my main fighter be involved in this nonsense? And why didn’t he wait and launch his other fight after mine? He’s confusing the fans and putting me in a spot of bother to explain to the authorities.”
Second failure
This is the second time the Golola-Kasumaali fight is failing. On December 26, 2018 Golola pulled out at the eleventh hour, complaining of an arm injury, Gombya told us yesterday, yet the promoter initially told the press that the fighters failed to match in weight. “I will never deal with Golola again,” Gombya swore. “I’ve had enough of his immaturity since the days I begun promoting his kickboxing when nobody knew him.”
Golola’s phone number was unavailable by press time. But a journalist who attended the Sheraton launch told us the new deal was too good to delay. “Golola told me he couldn’t resist the juicy deal,” the anonymous source told us Wednesday. Courtesy of rival giant music promoters: Abitex and Balaam, each fighter will bag Shs50m. Golola got Shs5m on the spot, which could be far bigger than what Gombya offered.
