KAMPALA. At least 60 boxers turned up for fitness test in Lugogo ahead of preparation for East African Community Games to be held from August 16-30 in Burundi.

“A lot of boxers out there in gyms have been complaining that they are not given chance on the national team hence this time we decided to call more boxers than ever before, we have a variety to choose from,” said Lawrence Kalyango one of the coaches.
The team includes seven female boxers in the Lukanga Boxing Club trio of Amina Musa, Monica Musimenta with Susan Akello plus Moreen Ayambo, Mariam Nakiberu, Lora Ainebyona and Emilly Nakalema.
Meanwhile the youthful boxers who won medals at the African Youth Boxing Championships in Morocco Muhammad Mazda Bunya – welterweight and Reagan Musoke – flyweight are also looking forward to Aiba Youth Women’s & Men’s World Boxing Championships due August 20 – 31 in Budapest, Hungary.
The double will be joined by John Fisher Odoch in the light weight category, who was invited by Aiba, For Odoch’s case, Kalyango said it is not new that Aiba sometimes decides to invite boxers for events where they did not qualify to participate, depending on their performances in qualification bouts.
