Indiza fires 65, increases lead

Kampala. ‘You won catch me’ is the statement Kenyan Dismas Indiza delivered to the field yesterday in Entebbe after he fired a round of six-under 65 to lead the 13th Castle Lite Uganda Professionals Golf Open by three shots at half-way stage.
Having led by a stroke after shooting 68 on Wednesday, the record four-time pros’ Open winner was troubled with three straight bogeys on the front nine. “I did well on the back nine on Day One but it was a problem today,” Indiza said after a day where 16 Ugandans made the cut including 18-year-old David Kamulindwa.
“I made some few mistakes when I was a few yards to the greens where I should have taken birdies.”
But he didn’t look back at the par-71 course. The 2007, 2008, 2011 and 2012 winner Indiza reacted to finish with a total nine birdies with five coming in turn between Holes No.11-15 and remain ahead in the race to the $50000 (Shs191m) purse.
“But today was fine so we shall see how everything goes,” Indiza stated when asked about his fifth title chances.
Based in Mumias, Indiza often drives from Busia to Kampala and he will tee-off on Day Three today with an overnight lead over Zambian Dayne Moore who shot 67.
Like Wednesday, the South African-based Moore had a bogey-free front nine with four birdies. “It was a lot better today,” the 25-year-old said.
Uganda’s best placed player is Happy Robert.
He quietly carded two-under to sit in fifth place, eight strokes behind Indiza.
Silver Opio is the other home boy in the top ten, with him tied sixth with three others including 2015 winner Muthiya Madalisto (fired 66) in sixth, a shot behind Robert.
There was a second hole-in-one at the Open with amateur Herman Mutebi firing his Titleist ball into the cup using a Callaway 7-iron in company of Deo Akope and Nelson Mudanyi on par-3 Hole No.2.
